For 1 big cup, with no detrement to the guys who organise the cup as you do a more than great job, it would take some pretty keen co-ordination from club managers to sort out the dates to prevent clashes / missed games. Also some good commitement from players, as this surely would mean a game every weekend for the season.

I hope it could be done as it would be cool, and it gets us out and about abit more.

Can neutral weekends be organised at sheffield.... Sounds abit bent but would mean full games played for teams who might stuggle with ice.

Last year was good, a draw is a draw. Us at the bottom will just have to find the net

In an ideal world we could go for one big group , it`s understandable given the way things worked out last year , we can either go with last years format which leaves things at the mercy of the draw or still go as last year but  the top 4 teams whichever group they are in go through even if they all come from 1 group , that would be fair

To keep the costs down and the availibility of ice time , the only real option is to keep it as it always has been option 1 .

The following has been sent out to all teams, this thread is for all teams to openly disuss the e-mail

1)   TEAMS FOR NEXT SEASON

The following teams have expressed an interest in joining the competition:

* Grimsby Lightning
* Altrincham Blackbears
* Telford Spartans

That potentially could mean up to 10 teams in the competition depending on the response to this e-mail.

2)   FORMAT OF CUP
The committee has decided to change the format of the competition to the following:

All the teams play in one large group with each team playing each other home and away, top four teams go through to playoffs

Number of games:
10 teams enter: 9xhome 9xaway = 18 games
9 teams enter: 8xhome 8xaway = 16 games
8 teams enter: 7xhome 7xaway = 14 games


However we appreciate that this option may not be suitable / viable to some teams so have provided a number of other options open for discussion:

OPTION 1
Continue as the last two seasons:

2 groups of teams, teams play opposite group of teams, top two in each group go through to the playoffs

Number of games:
10 teams enter: 5xhome 5x away = 10 games
8 teams enter: 4xhome 4xaway = 8 games

OPTION 2
All the teams play in one large group, with each team playing each other team once. There would be an even number of home and away games, the following year the fixtures are reversed.

Number of games:
10 teams enter: 4/5xhome 5/4xaway = 9 games
9 teams enter: 4xhome 4xaway = 8games
8 teams enter : 4/3 home 3/4xaway = 7 games

OPTION 3
Teams are split into two groups as previous years. The teams can then either:

a) play each team in the OPPOSITE group home & away, and then each team in their OWN group once

Number of games:
10 teams enter: 7x home 7xAway = 14 games
8 teams enter:  5/6xhome 6/5xaway = 11 games

or b) play each team in their OWN group home & away, and then each team in the OPPOSITE group once

Number of games:
10 teams enter: 7/6x home 6/7xAway = 13 games
8 teams enter:  5xhome 5xaway = 10 games

If we aim to get the competition running for around March time - when most teams will start to get an idea of ice time availability that would give us 22-26 weeks to get all the fixtures played before a playoff final in early September.

3) RULES
The competition, as in previous seasons will be played under EIHA Rec Rules.
All games are to be played full checking.
If any team cancels a game it will be a 10-0 forfeit. Unless a valid reason (not enough players does not come under this rule)
Top 2 scorers from opposition team will receive 5 points each.
Team cancelling is responsible for costs incurred under EIHA rec rulings.
TEAM CANCELLING WILL BE OMITTED FROM END OF SEASON PLAYOFFS AND REPLACED WITH NEXT BEST PLACED TEAM.

A full list of competition specific rules will be published once the format and number of teams competing has been determined.

Organisers decision is final - Andy Daintith, Mike Roddy, and John Freeman and guidance from Tony Boynton.

It would be 7 'home'  ice slots per team. Based on 8 teams.

Would be good to play every one though haha

It would be fairer if all teams could play each other , but it would be a nightmare playing all the games home and away , ice time would be a problem for some teams, so although it does`nt always work out for the best I think it has to keep it`s present format to keep it workable , only my opinion

My fault it is Saturday 23rd August!!

Summer Cup Playoffs

Sunday 23rd August at Ice Sheffield

10.30 am Game 1 - 1st semi-final
12.45 pm Game 2 - 2nd semi-final
17.15 pm Game 3 - Plate final
19.30 pm Game 4 - Playoff final

Sunday is the 24th so are the playoffs saturday 23rd or sunday 24th.
